We have been on site at the Darwin College Conference Centre within the University of Kent in Canterbury for the last two weeks.
Working on behalf of Surefix (Kent). We were contracted to remove the existing PVCu frames and glazing, and then prepare the openings for the installation of eight large aluminium framed glazed screens and four sets of double doors on two elevations of the building.
We specified Sapa's Elegance 52 curtain walling with square edge mullion face caps and Sapa's STII doors with fire exit hardware and glazed in louvres above. A combination of 6mm and 8mm clear low energy heat soak treated toughened units were installed into the frames. The large units were over 2m wide by nearly 4m tall so a spider crane and glass sucker with extended arms were used to manoeuvre the oversized units into position.
Contracts Manager Brett Halfpenny and trainee Contracts Manager David de Henau coordinated the installation with our site operatives Steve, Kevin, Liam, Steve and our apprentice Zac carrying out the work. We'll be back on site soon to install the glazed in louvres above the double doors.
A time-lapse video of the glass units being installed will be released very soon.
